To improve my academic ability and hope that I can achieve some progress in the field of cognitive neuroscience.

How did you know our Graduate School? And what kind of research do you conduct now?

I was very interested in Japanese culture when I was a teenager, I came up with the idea of studying at which university in Japan. In the communication with the professor, I learned the relevant information of the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering in Health Systems at Okayama University. I was lucky enough to study at Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory in this graduate school from the pre-doctoral course. Cognitive neuroscience is a field that elucidates the intellectual functions of human beings, especially the functions of memory and thinking. By clarifying the brain functions that produce human cognitive behavior, it is expected to clarify the relationship between human behavior and brain activity. I am now studying topics related to the generation of cuteness emotion and the neural mechanisms in the brain.

Why did you decide to study at our Graduate School?

The main reason for studying in Japan is to improve my academic ability and hope that I can achieve some progress in the field of cognitive neuroscience. After understanding the academic level of the laboratory and the current research direction, I think that the professors in the laboratory have a very powerful academic ability to help me carry out research. And the international level and the international students’ number of the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering in Health Systems at Okayama University is also one of the very important reasons that attract me.

Did you experience any confusion in your life in Japan due to the changes and differences in the environment from your country? And if so, how did you solve them? Please tell us about any people or departments that helped you.

Although China and Japan are both Asian countries, there are some differences in diet and living habits. For example, vehicles drive on the left side in Japan, which is the opposite in China. And bowing is very common etiquette in Japan, while in China, bowing is too grand. These differences make me feel uncomfortable when I just arrived in Japan. But I got a lot of help through the communication between professors and classmates. I learned more about the different habits in China and Japan, and now I think I’ve gotten used to the differences pretty well.

What is the appeal of your campus life?

Okayama has a mild climate in comparison to most of Japan. Okayama is called “the Sunny Country” because of its low rainfall. And it is a very beautiful place with a famous Koraku-en and close to the Seto Inland Sea. In addition to the study course required in Okayama University Hospital, I spent most of my study and life in the Tsushima campus. In daily life has received a lot of kindness for foreign students, such as Koraku-en’s tickets for foreign students are free, the school farm often has fresh fruits and vegetables. Everyone in our lab was also friendly and enthusiastic, and my predecessors have been taught dialects in various parts of Japan when we were chatting. So, in my opinion, the most attractive thing is a wonderful atmosphere.

How do you think about your future career path?

Through my study abroad life, I deepened my understanding of the sincere attitude of the Japanese people and Japanese culture. Thanks to that, I have made many Japanese friends and am enjoying my study abroad life. In the future, if I get a doctoral degree, I would like to proceed as a scholar in the field of cognitive neuroscience, make use of my study abroad experience and research experience to help the new researcher in this study field and promote the development.

Please give a message to those who are thinking of studying at our Graduate School.

Okayama University has an excellent academic atmosphere. The instructors from the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering in Health Systems at Okayama University have solid academic abilities. Predecessors and classmates are also kind and friendly. If encounter any confusion in studying abroad, we can get help in communicating with teachers or classmates. I think learning here will be very helpful to improve the academic level and increase knowledge.
