Designing a Comprehensive Continuum of Care: Developing Seamless Response Systems for Disaster Preparedness, Response, and Recovery
Thanks to the strengthened disaster prevention capabilities of Japan’s roads and buildings, the country has significantly reduced its disaster-related deaths compared to other nations, despite the frequent occurrence of natural disasters. However, with over 28% of its population being elderly and many receiving advanced medical support and comprehensive nursing and welfare services while living in their communities, it has become clear that disaster medicine alone cannot adequately respond to disasters in such a society. Therefore, our research focuses on establishing a collaborative support system involving partners from the health, medical, public health, and welfare sectors, including government agencies, public support organizations like DMAT, DPAT, and DWAT, NGOs, and voluntary disaster prevention organizations.
